A year ago this week while in Charlottesville, I took some time to visit local wineries and breweries. It was a picture perfect spring week in Charlottesville which made for breathtaking views with the mountains as a back drop with sunshine, blue skies and puffy white clouds. King Family Vineyards in Crozet is one of several wineries/vineyards I visited on that trip.
With their expansive property, vineyards, beautiful rustic large tasting room, indoor and outdoor patio seating, polo fields and special events center, it is the perfect way to spend an afternoon and relax to “enjoy the view”. In addition, Polo matches are held every Sunday, from Memorial Day weekend through mid-October and are free to watch.
I have made several trips to King Family Vineyards and included their wines in “Escape to Charlottesville” packages I have put together for non profit and school auctions in Hampton Roads as their wines are one of my favorite from that region. The Viognier and the Cabernet Franc are two of my favorites. Since their establishment in 1998, this family owned vineyard has grown tremendously in size. From their website: “the winery produces just over 10,000 cases of wine per year and the vineyard has expanded to 31 acres. All of our fruit comes from the Monticello American Viticulture Area (AVA).”
On your next trip to the Charlottesville region, make time to visit King Family Vineyards and enjoy “the view”. http://www.kingfamilyvineyards.com/
