The sight of the Capital Wheel lit up at sunset overlooking the Potomac River in the Washington DC region that creates a childhood excitement capturing the pristine beauty of the region. A fun fact of the Capital Wheel: it has 1.6 million LED lights with a spectrum of 16.7 million colors (from the National Harbor website).
I have a strong affinity for the Washington DC region, especially Alexandria, Fairfax & the National Mall area. It was this past year I ventured “across the harbor” to explore the Maryland side and the “beauty” along the harbor. From the Capital Wheel soaring 180 feet above the Potomac in an enclosed carriage, to the outdoor movies on the gigantic screen to the outdoor playground on the water front, to the many dining/entertainment/lodging options including the stunning Gaylord National Resort & Conference Center, there is something for everyone.
On their summer Fridays they have cornhole, bocce ball and other fun simple entertainment
Now, every trip I make to Alexandria, I try to carve out time to drive across the bridge to National Harbor to stroll the waterfront and watch a sunset. With over 150 shops & 30 dining options along with hotels and other venues, there are options for every budget for a fun filled family destination.

I love DC and Maryland. I grew up just outside of Baltimore and spent so much time in both cities. They hold a special place in my heart. You captured the beauty and adventure. I love it and love your blog!!
